  • Craig Goldenfarb Announces the Emanuel McMiller Scholarship for Higher Education

Craig Goldenfarb Announces the Emanuel McMiller Scholarship for Higher Education

For Immediate Release – 3/9/2016 (West Palm Beach) – Craig Goldenfarb, personal injury lawyer in West Palm Beach and owner of the Law Offices of Craig Goldenfarb, P.A., is pleased to announce the establishment of the Emanuel McMiller Scholarship for Higher Education, which will be awarded to inner-city youth to help them apply and matriculate to college or graduate school.

The scholarship will be available to high school seniors who are or were graduates of Urban Youth Impact, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in West Palm Beach. The scholarship will be awarded each spring beginning in 2017.
The primary use of the $1,500.00 scholarship will be to fund the costs of applying to various undergraduate and graduate college programs for as many as five college-bound students. Urban Youth Impact students who are considering a graduate education in law, medicine, or business are especially encouraged to apply.

The namesake of the scholarship, Emanuel McMiller, credits his time as a student with Urban Youth Impact as formative and life-changing. Upon graduation from college, McMiller was hired by Mr. Goldenfarb to work in various capacities at his law firm. It was by learning of McMiller’s life story that Mr. Goldenfarb discovered Urban Youth Impact, and took an immediate interest in supporting the organization. Mr. Goldenfarb was a doner to 2016’s Summer Jam, a program designed to keep children engaged in positive activies during summer break.

When Mr. Goldenfarb discovered that McMiller was planning to attend law school, he offered to help pay for the cost of his LSAT testing and law school applications.

“Then I found out that Emanuel had been accepted to several law schools, including my alma mater, the University of Florida, which was just really touching,” says Mr. Goldenfarb. “This young man is just such a fantastic person, and it’s really an honor that he has allowed me to be a part of his journey. Emanuel has inspired me in so many ways, including my decision to make this scholarship commitment that will benefit students just like him for years to come.”

Given that Mr. Goldenfarb is a member of the Board of Influence for Urban Youth Impact, the scholarship is a wonderful opportunity to create a lasting partnership and a legacy with the organization and its students, he says.

Bill Hobbs, Urban Youth Impact’s President and Founder, applauded Goldenfarb and the support of the community. “It is our mission to love, equip and empower inner city youth, and to provide opporunities for them to achieve their dreams. Support and mentorship from positive role models is missing from many of our kids lives. With that, we can make a difference in their futures.”

Details on the application process for the Emanuel McMiller Scholarship for Higher Education will become available later this year in partnership with Urban Youth Impact.

  • Urban Youth Impact Receives Donation from Craig Goldenfarb

At Urban Youth Impact in West Palm Beach, the 33,000 square foot campus hums with activity all summer long. Craig Goldenfarb took a visit of the building in July, accompanied by founder Bill Hobbs, to meet some of the children who benefit from the programs and learn about the non-profit organization’s mission. Craig was also there to make a $500 donation to the organization.

Craig’s donation will be matched by the Board of Directors for their summer fundraising drive, turning it into $1,000 – money that will go a long way in funding Urban Youth Impact’s programs while kids are out of school.

Urban Youth Impact is a Christian-based non-profit that seeks to empower and equip inner-city youth with life skills through programs that provide education, job training, and mentorships. Thousands of children from all around Palm Beach County each year participate in Urban Youth Impact’s main program, an after-school reading tutorship.

During the summer, when these children are out of school, the facility turns into one big exciting summer camp, keeping these children entertained, engaged in positive activities, and off the streets. “We focus on this community because these children and young adults need to know that they are important, and their lives matter” said Hobbs of the young boys and girls he is surrounded by every day. Hobbs has but one goal: to make these kids understand that they are loved, and that they have a purpose in life.

In addition to the $500 donation, Craig will also be providing equipment and goods, including a large flat-screen television to use on campus.

To learn more about Urban Youth Impact, and find out how you can donate to the organization’s summer fundraising drive or volunteer your time, please visit www.urbanyouthimpact.com. Remember that 94% of all donations go directly to programming that will impact the lives of the children UYI serves.

  • ARC of Martin County KDW Fishing Tournament 2015

The Law Offices of Craig Goldenfarb, P.A. was a proud sponsor of this year’s KDW Fishing Tournament benefiting the ARC of Martin County. ARCMC, for short, is a non-profit organization in Martin County dedicated to creating a better quality of life and richer opportunities for the disabled and mentally-challenged.

Attorney Jeff Kirby is a South Florida native and lifelong fisherman, so naturally, he took to the tournament sponsorship as soon as he heard about it. Jeff recently joined our firm, and this was one of the first events that he was able to participate in.

The Captain’s Meeting was held at Twisted Tuna in Stuart, Florida, and so too were the weigh-ins and the dinner that followed the tournament. Many awards and raffles were given out, and the ARCMC even provided us with a wonderful plaque to hang up in our office.

“ARC” stands for Advancing the Rights of the Challenged. The mission of the organization is to empower those in the community who have disabilities. ARCMC accomplishes this goal with local community programs and services that include residential care, supported living, job training, behavior healthcare, and children’s services. The programs serve both adults and children of all ages and backgrounds.

In 2014, our firm was a main sponsor of the ARC of Martin County’s Bike Fest. We have been a committed partner to this wonderful Treasure Coast organization ever since.

Visit ARC of Martin County online to learn more about the organization.

  • Hoops4Heroes Basketball Tournament Raises Thousands for Wounded Warrior Project

We’ve reached the conclusion of the first annual Hoops4Heroes 3ON3 Basketball tournament, which saw a total of $4,341 raised for wounded veterans who are in need of housing, education, meals, medical treatment, and much more. Hoops4Heroes accepted donations from players, teams, and the friends and family of the event’s organizers and participants, and 100% of the proceeds went to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Here at the Law Offices of Craig Goldenfarb, P.A., we are tremendously proud to have made this event possible. As the sole corporate sponsor and underwriter of the event, our firm covered all costs to allow the full proceeds to benefit combat veterans. Attorney Goldenfarb said, “We [the organizers] have been kicking around the idea of doing something for veterans for a long time. This year was finally the year we did it.”

The tourney took place on Sunday, November 9th at the Palm Beach Atlantic University, falling just two days shy of Veteran’s Day, and was the brainchild of our very own Tom Copeland, Marketing Director at our firm. Copeland said he had the idea for the tournament while playing basketball with Goldenfarb and his adult men’s league. After researching local basketball tournaments, he found that there wasn’t currently one held in West Palm Beach.

“The ‘Proud Supporter’ platform that Wounded Warriors has created allows anyone who is passionate and committed enough to organize their own sports-related fundraiser, and just go do it. A basketball tournament is unique because it hasn’t been done here before, and I knew it would raise a lot of attention”, says Copeland.

With the help of a few key volunteers, Copeland organized and promoted the event. He partnered with the men’s basketball team and athletic staff at Palm Beach Atlantic University, as well as the staff of ESPN West Palm. ESPN West Palm was generous enough to donate advertising space and promotion of the event, in addition to their time.

Twelve teams registered for the tournament, which added up to a total of 48 players. The teams each donated a minimum of $60 in the form of a registration fee, and then played in front of more than 200 spectators. The winning team was “Battiers Not Included,” and they took home individual medals along with a beautiful engraved trophy.

The Law Offices of Craig Goldenfarb, P.A. would like to especially thank Thomas Roush of Roush Spine in Lantana and Backsaver LLC’s Dr. Christopher White for their particularly generous donations in the name of Hoops4Heroes.

  • “Dunk-A-Lawyer” Raiser Funds For Palm Beach County Food Bank

The Law Offices of Craig Goldenfarb hosts a dunk tank at the South Florida Fair to raise funds and awareness to combat hunger in our county.

Are you planning to be at the Fair this weekend? Do you have a pitcher’s arm? Ever wanted to dunk a lawyer in a big, cold tank of water? You’ll have that chance as the South Florida Fair opens this weekend, starting on Friday, January 17th, 2014 at 11 a.m. through Sunday evening, January 19th, 2014.

The Law Offices of Craig Goldenfarb, P.A. of West Palm Beach, Florida will have a dunk tank at their exhibitor’s booth, promoting the “Dunk-A-Lawyer” campaign. A $1 donation will get you three balls and three chances to dunk one of the lawyers from the firm. Every dollar raised will go to The Palm Beach County Food Bank.

The campaign was the brainchild of Craig Goldenfarb, who regularly attends the Fair as a sponsor and exhibitor. But this year, he wanted to create a vendor space with a purpose. Rather than just put flyers about the firm on his table, Craig decided to organize a partnership with the Fair’s “Dream Big” initiative, which aims to collect as many cans of food and dollars as possible for a local food bank.

As it turns out, a dunk tank was just the sort of shenanigans this kind of campaign needed to take off.

“As soon as we announced to our firm that we would sponsor a dunk tank, volunteers poured in. It has really energized and excited our staff. Our goal is to generate the same level of excitement and enthusiasm from fairgoers so it translates into dollars for the Palm Beach County Food Bank, an organization with a mission that is more critical to our county’s future than most people realize”, said Craig Goldenfarb.

Statistics show 1 in 6 people in Palm Beach County, or about 17% of our residents, do not know where their next meal will come from. In South Florida, it’s even worse, with nearly a million people struggling to feed themselves.
Of that population, an estimated 300,000, or one-third, are children.

“Hunger is a real need that exists right here in our backyard. One of the ways we can respond is to constantly raise awareness of this issue. While a dunk tank is rather theatrical, if it attracts a lot of people and attention, we will have an opportunity to raise more money and awareness than we would have if we were to simply ask for donations”, said Spencer Kuvin, lead litigator at the firm. “To that end, and I speak for everyone involved here, I can’t wait to climb into that tank this weekend”.

Craig Goldenfarb plans on being in the dunk tank this weekend himself. Spencer Kuvin is committing to being in the tank on Saturday afternoon. Director of Food Programming and Operations for the Palm Beach County Food Bank Brian Phelan is committing to a turn in the tank on Saturday afternoon. Lawyers and staff from The Law Offices of Craig Goldenfarb will be at the booth accepting dollars for a chance to dunk the lawyers and volunteers all weekend, from Friday, January 17th, 2014 through early evening on Sunday, January 19th, 2014.

A date to present the check to the Palm Beach County Food Bank on the main stage at the Fair has not yet been set, but will likely be planned for the following weekend.

  • Local Law Firm Helps Break World Reading Record

Local Law Firm Helps Break World Record for Most Books Read in a Single Day

On October 3rd, 2013 at 10:00 AM, volunteers across the country will participate in the annual Read for the Record event that helps pre-K kids learn to read with the help of thousands of local community personalities. One local group is participating by reading to children at the Luciano Martinez Center in Palm Springs to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

For Immediate Release (10/3/2013) – West Palm Beach, FL. – One year ago this week, more than 2.3 million volunteers from communities across the nation convened on their local pre-K and elementary classrooms to read Ladybug Girls and the Bug Squad to groups of 3-6 year olds.

Why? To set a new world record for most people reading the same book on the same day, and raise awareness for the importance of childhood literacy.

Read for the Record is an annual event organized by JumpStart, a Boston, MA-based non-profit committed to early childhood development and learning in partnership with Pearson.

On October 3rd, 2013 at 10:00 AM, volunteers from the Law Offices of Craig Goldenfarb P.A. will come together at the Luciano Martinez Child Development Center in Palm Springs to read to several different classrooms of 10-12 mostly Spanish-speaking 5-6 year olds in English, an effort encouraged by the teachers at the center to help the children prepare for an English language-centered education.

The event is part of the firm’s community campaign to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, observed from September 15th, 2013 through October 15th, 2013.

The Hispanic Human Resources Council (HHRC) has partnered with The Law Offices of Craig Goldenfarb and their staff to commit volunteers from the firm to read the adorable story of Otis, a lovable tractor who befriends a calf, in coordination with millions of other volunteers and children throughout the country.

Craig Goldenfarb shares in the vision of JumpStart. “I have watched my two daughters go through their elementary education. I have seen how influential these preschool developmental years can be and how reading can develop and expand their minds. I’m really happy to know I have staff that share my feelings, and are willing to take time out of their morning to help the children at the Luciano Martinez Center develop a love for reading.”

Spencer T. Kuvin, Director of Litigation for the Law Offices of Craig Goldenfarb, sees Read for the Record as an opportunity to honor the Hispanic culture. “The children of the Luciano Martinez Center are the future of the Hispanic community in our town and our county. I’m excited to see first-hand the work that this wonderful organization is doing for this young generation.”

Spencer T. Kuvin will be on location and available for press quotes, interviews, or queries.

  • Think Ahead with These 7 Hurricane Preparedness Tips

Each hurricane season, we face the possibility that a powerful hurricane will strike Palm Beach County. Hurricanes are not something we can control. But we can be prepared for the worst, by planning in advance.

One of the most important steps you can take is to stock up on supplies for your home. Some important items you may need to have include:

    1. Water – You should have at least one gallon of water per day per person, for at least three days. You can buy bottles of water at the supermarket, and you can fill up your bathtub, sink, and any empty containers in your house.
    2. Food – Buy canned food and nonperishables – enough for at least three days. Also make sure you have a non-electric can opener, paper plates, and plastic utensils.
    3. Clothing – Anything that is protective, such as strong shoes and rain gear. It may not be fashionable, but you will be glad you have it.
    4. First-aid kits and medicines – If anyone is your house takes prescription medications, make sure you have enough on hand.
    5. Battery-operated flashlights and radios – Make sure that you have plenty of batteries, and that you have every type you need for the equipment in your house.
    6. Important documents – Keep these in a waterproof container, and have extra copies in your safety deposit box. These could include insurance policies, medical records, bank account numbers, Social Security cards, and lists of user names and passwords. Also make a list of all your valuables for insurance purposes.
    7. Games and toys – Finally, you should have books and low-tech toys and games, to pass the time.

At the beginning of hurricane season, you may look at this collection and think it is a waste of space. But if a hurricane hits our area, you will be glad you thought ahead and prepared for it.
