LOCG’s Emergency Health Preparedness Plan
During this time of heightened concern, I want to take a minute to inform you about how we are continuing to serve our clients in the midst of the Coronavirus outbreak.
First of all, I want you, our clients, to take comfort in knowing that our firm and our staff are fully prepared for this public health emergency.
Our firm has always been proactive, not reactive. Our employees are already provided with a generous paid time off package, so they don’t feel like they have to report to work when they are sick. We closely monitor the advice from our health and government officials, so that we are always informed. A few years ago, we began an ambitious transition to become “paperless” by converting our physical files to digital, and upgraded our case management software for secure remote access.
That means our employees are healthy, our staff is informed, and we can continue to work on your case from anywhere.
Of course, all of this is to benefit you, our clients. The health and safety of our employees comes first, so that our employees can continue to serve you without any lapse in productivity or customer service.
You are the reason we continue to come to work every day – to serve you in your journey to recover emotionally, physically, and financially from your injuries.
I’m proud to say that we will not stop working for you during the growing pandemic, even with the prospect of a mandated quarantine. We stand fully ready to transition every one of our sixty employees to working remotely from home.
With that said, here is what you need to know about your personal injury case at this time:
- Until further notice, we are shifting all non-essential in-person meetings with clients and defense attorneys, including for new case signups, initial consultations, depositions, and closing meetings. Meetings will be conducted via telephone conference or video conferencing using Skype.
- Any document requiring a signature will be done using Vinesign, an e-signature software. This includes signatures for new cases, authorizations, and closing meetings. You can e-sign anything we send to you via your smartphone or computer.
- Our staff is working closely with our medical providers to determine who is remaining open to continue to treat our clients. If you have any concerns about your medical treatment, please contact your Legal Assistant or Case Manager right away.
- For clients whose cases are post-settlement, we will be working swiftly to expedite the closing process so you can get your settlement proceeds as soon as possible.

How it Spreads
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is an airborne virus that is transmitted primarily through person-to-person contact within about a 6ft radius. The pathogen causes infection through respiratory droplets produced by an infected person who coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouth or noses of people close by.
Anywhere from 2 – 14 days after exposure the following symptoms may include:
- Shortness of Breath
Clean Your Hands
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand-sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are potentially sick by creating distance between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in your community.
Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, counter tops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
Nursing Home Cases Involving COVID19
Reports are now coming out that certain facilities in Florida knew that patients were coming down with COVID19, and negligently and knowingly failed to adequately respond. Many facilities have failed to provide for even the most basic protections and needs of those in their care, including a failure to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to staff and residents and a complete disregard for testing, diagnosing, and isolating infected patients. Further, some facilities intentionally hid or manipulated their infection rates from family members and State authorities in an attempt to cover their negligent actions.
As a direct result, thousands of nursing home and assisted living patients across the state have become ill and/or died from exposure to COVID19 that should have been prevented. As of June 2020, it is estimated that half of Florida’s death toll from COVID19 is attributable to these abhorrent facility operators.
These facilities and their staff must be help legally responsible for the patients in their care who suffered or passed as a result of COVID19 infection. Do not let this multi-billion dollar industry get away with this.
